The ruling Awami League yesterday called upon Leader of the Opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad and BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia to return to the Sangsad alongwith all her party MPs and speak out all grievances on the floor of the House.

Prime Minister's Parliamentary Affairs Adviser and senior AL leader Suraniit Sengupta MP gave the call while briefing newsmen following BNP's decision to abstain from attending the House till its 10-point demand is accepted.

Chief Whip of the Sangsad Abul Hasnat Abdullah and whips Abdus Shahid and Miza-nur Rahman Manu were also present at the briefing held at the Chief Whip's Sangsad Bha-ban chamber.

The briefing was held soon after the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) submitted a 10-point resolution. endorsed al its parliamentary party meeting yesterday afternoon, to Speaker Hu-malyun Rashid Chowdhury conveying the latter that it would not be possible for BNP lawmakers to attend the Sangsad session till the problems faced by them were resolved.

"On behalf of the Leader of the House, we are welcoming BNP’s return to the house this moment, any moment. We don't claim we are performing fully accurately, we are not above mistakes, but. let's all problems settle on the floor of the House ". Suranjit said. He appealed to the leader of the Opposition to express her grievances in the House.

Suranjit said. 'If you (BNP) want us to discuss, please let us know the time and venue that suit you best. If you want us to cofomunicate. we can also request the Speaker to convene a meeting of the JS Business Advisory ' Committee to settle problem, if there is any."

He said that people elected the MPs not to speak outside the House, rather "they sent us to this august House to speak on their behalf on the floor of the Sangsad."

The Chief Whip said "When we set order of the days in the House incorporating all issues for discussion, as proposed by BNP. in the recent meeting of JS Business Advisory Committee, they decided not to attend the sittings " Tlie issues of law and order, industrialisation and (irivalisation .ill were taken up or discuss in the House as per their will, lie added.

Replying to a question whether BNP's abstension had any link with introduction of the Indemnity (Repeal) Bill. 1996. Suranjit said that he didn't find anything like that in BNP's 10-point resolution. 'They can take a firm stand on this issue if they don’t feel like that killers should be tried.” he added

Suranjit said "they (BNP) are desperately looking for an issue. they are looking for a Magura-like incident", a 'Mir-pur-like incident". But. let me convey them that they will have no such chance as Hastna-gov-ernment will not give birth to any such incidents .
