The Election Commission (ECI has imposed a 72-hour ban on meetings and processions from the midnight of October 13 in Habiganj-2 constituency where by-election will be held on October 15. reports UNB

During the period, anybody resorting to terrorism or acts of indiscipline or intimidating voters or persons Involved In the electoral process will be sentenced to 2-7 years Imprisonment with fine, said a press release of the Election Commission Secretariat yesterday. On the day of election, seeking votes, canvassing or preventing anybody from voting within 400 yards of polling centres is restricted. Anyone violating this rule will suffer six months to 3 years' imprisonment with fine.

However, candidates vrith the returning officer's permission can display banners and posters in the areas reserved for them outside 100 yards of the polling centres.

Meanwhile. The Deputy Commissioner of Hablganj has been empowered to ban movement of different modes of road and water transports for 60 hours from October 13 midnight in view of bypolls in Habiganj-2 constituency.

However, the ban will not be applicable for agents of the candidates, polls observers, journalists, those involved in the election process, members of law enforcing agencies, fire brigade, ambulance and electricity and gas related vehicles, said a EC press release.

Besides, the Election Commission has banned carrying of legal firearms for six days from October 12 midnight.
