Prime Minister Sheikh । Hasina yesterday called upon I the members of the police force to earn the confidence of people | by discharging their duty more sincerely to Improve law and order all over the country, reports BSS

"Our government is pledgebound to ensure the safety and security of people and the country s gradual economic development she said and expressed the hope that the police would work as the servants of the nation to supplement government's efforts in improving the lot of the people

The police force is a very important institution of the country for running the gov rrnment s affairs, she said adding: without police the gov ernment cannot function

The prime minister said this while addressing the members of the BCS (Police) Association at her office Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Mahiuddin Khan Alamglr was present.

Earlier, inspector General of Police M Azizul Huq introduced the members of the association to the prime minister

Association president Ismail Hussain general secretary Nurul Alam treasurer Nurul Huda and members Shahidul Islam Choudhury. Burhan Sid dlqul and Abdul Khaleq con gratulated the prime minister on her generous and magnanimous steps to resolve some problems of the police force.

They also put forward some suggestions and proposals to resolve other problems they were now facing.

The Inspector General of Police in his Introductory speech expressed gratitude for the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina soon after the forma tion of the present government to the Rajarbag Police Une.

Azizul Huq on behalf of the 93.000 members of the police force assured the prime minis-ter of their best efforts to remove terrorism.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made it clear to the members of the BCS (Police) Association that her government would not utilise the police the way they were used as tools by the governments between 1975 and 1996.

Assuring her government s full cooperation to the police for ensuring the safety and security of people. Sheikh Hasina said her government had opened up a chance for them to earn ihe confidence of people through their sincere service.

Sheikh Hasina asked the police officers to arrest any terrorist or mastans. even if he is from her own party, to rid the nation of the culture of hooliganism.

Referring to the demands put forward by the association members to the prime minister, she said these would be taken into active consideration, through discussion In phases.
