PABNA. Oct 9: Having rainfall on October 5 night all over the district has not only inundated vast areas afresh but also made over two lakhs of day-labourers and landless peasants completely jobless.

At least light lakh men. women and children, dependent fully on the day-labourers and landless peasants, have been passing their days in miseries.

Fresh rainfall has caused huge loss to the farmers and the agricultural labourers as well, the losses they suffered earlier during three consecutive floods which were accompanied with

erosion were yet to be regained. Their destroyed houses could not be rebuild for want of money. The corrugated his that were distributed were extremely' meagre to meet the minimum requirements.

Meanwhile, the cultivation of all local variety of amar< paddy, all sorts of winter veg -etables like potato, tomato. cauliflowers have been facing setback.

Agriculture rehabilitation scheme might not be succeed due to fresh rainfalls. Water logging caused by renewed rain stands heavily on the way of augmenting cultivation.

While talking to this correspondent the Deputy Director. Agriculture Extension Department. Pabna. however, said that the situation was not completely frustrating as the unaffected areas were still expected to produce a good yield of aman paddy.

He, however, admitted that the cultivation of potato, mustard seeds, pulses of some varieties. wheat and all sorts of winter vegetables would suffer most.

Meanwhile, reaction of ihe above situation is extremely sharp in the market. Prices ol pulses and vegetables ol all sorts have gone abnormally high in the market. Manv of such commodities are in extremely short supply in the market. Prices of wheat and at-ta have been steadily rising, it was gathered.
