KUSHTIA. Sept 8: The flood situation In Kushtia district has improved further with continued fall In water levels in the Ganges and Gorai.

The river Ganges was flowing 8 centimeters above the danger mark at 6 am today wlule the river Gorai 31 centimeters below the danger mark at 6 pm.

According to the District Administration. 13455 families comprising 60,570 people in 5 thanas of the district are affected by flood and erosion while 8 person lost their lives. About 8210 acres of crop land have been fully and 2695 acres partially damaged. A total of 8868 houses are fully while 5785 houses partially damaged. Nearly 19 educational Institutions are partially damaged.

The district administration has requested the government to sanction 150 m tons of rice. 150 in tons of wheat. 5 lakh taka as cash grant. 3 lakh Taka as house building grant, 1000 Sieces of sarees and lungees and 20 bundles of CI sheet after assessing the extent of damages caused by flood and erosion. The government has meanwhile. sanctioned 30 m tons of rice. 100 pieces of sarees and 100 pieces of lungees.

Meanwhile, water borne diseases have broken out in the flood affected areas.
