CAIRO, Sept 8: Fifteen Sudanese soldiers were killed and five others wounded in an attack by a northern opposition group in Sudan, a group of the Forces of the Alliance said in a statement Saturday, report*

"A group of the Forces of the Alliance led an operation in eastern Sudan near the border with Eritrea and killed 15 gov eminent troops and wounded 15 others" Friday, the statement in the Arab daily Al-Hayat said.

This group took cpntrol of a government position for several hours" before safely returning to their bases, it said.

The group, led by former general Abdel Aziz Khaled, includes a number of former Sudanese military, offices who left the country after general Omar Al-Beshir's coup in June 1989.

The forces of the alliance, which operates out of Eritrea, also said it has several times attacked government troops.
