State Minister for Law. Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Matin Khasru stressed the need for creating social awareness and educating women to guard against repression on them, reports UNB

The state minister was friau guratmg a three-day training workshop on human rights and women issues for crime re porters in the city yesterday.

Nari Progotl Sangha and Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) have jointly organised the workshop.

Terming the journalist community as the fourth estate, the state minister appreciated the role played by them during the recent struggle for democracy. He urged them to project objective news in focusing rq-presslon against women 'keeping in view the sbcfal status and dignity of the women.

He also called for guarding

againsl the misuse ol law to prohibit repression against women "Side by side awarding exemplary punishment io the accused. we must also be very careful to rehabilitate the con cerned victim In the society with due honour." he added.

Stressing on the strict en forcement of law to check women traffic king Matin Khasru said that the < onstltu tion has not only enshrined equal rights for women but also provided provisions for special privileges for the women com munlty of the country.

Mere enforcement of law to check crime against women is not enough, the State Minister said, adding that concerned re-presMtra should be boycotted socially to reduce occurrences of such offeree against women.

Thirty crime reporters from across the country are participating in the training workshop.
