Aug 7: Danny Wilson, the 19-year-old Essex all-rounder, enjoyed a successful debut against South Africa A here on Tuesday with an unbeaten 52 and two wickets although the tourists finished with an 11-run victory, reports AFP.

Wilson, son of pop group Hot Choclate lead singer Errol Brown, was unable to overhaul South Africa's 287 for six with Essex finishing on 276 for six in the 50 overs match.

Wilson helped himself to one six and three fours in his entertaining innings and most of his runs arrived during an unbeaten stand of 80 tn ten overs with Mark Hott, who finished 42 not out from 27 deliveries.

South Africa, who remain unbeaten on this tour, owed a great deal of debt to captain Gerry Liebenberg.

He scored 73 from 86 balls but just when he was looking to step up a gear he was smartly caught at the leg side by Robert Rollings to provide Wilson with his first success.

Liebenberg's chiei support came from Herschelled Gibbas who scored 48 during a second wicket stand, which produced 103 in 16 overs.

Liebenberg then went on to underline his ability in the field by taking a fine catch tow down at short mid-wicket to get rid of Jonathan Lewis for 48 just when Essex were threatening to gain the initiative.

Following Lewis's departure. Essex went off the boil until Wilson and Illot came together to set up an exciting finish which ended with South Africa able to celebrate an 11 rqn victory.
