The overall flood situation in the country further aggravated yesterday as fresh areas ol the northern region were inundated due to rise in water level of the major rivers, reports UNB

Most rivers in the country's four river basins swelled with five rivers in the Brahamaputra and Meghna basins flowing above their respective danger levels

According to a Flood Information Centre bulletin, the wa ter levels of 26 rivers in the

Brahamaputra. Ganges. Meghna and South Eastern Hill basins registered rise while those of 16 others marked fall.

The Ganges at Bahigyakul which was below It* danger mark on Friday rose by 10 cm and was flowing six cm above the danger level Brahamaputra at Bahadurabad further swelled by 16 cm during the period, overflowing 19 cm from its danger mark

Kushlyara at Sheola and Ajii.ilshid points receded dur mg the period by 10 cm and

31 cm respectively but re malned 22 and 51 cm above their respective danger levels

Surma at Kanaighat rose by three cm and was now flowing above 82 cm of its red mark

In Sirajgan). flood situation turned serious as more areas were inundated by the over flowing Jamuna Thirty more villages of Kazlpur thana were submerged on Friday night after flood water entered by breaching 200 feet of Sin grabari embankment.

Officials said standing crops of some 1.000 acres of land were damaged due to the flood

Flood situation also wors ened in Shahjadpur, Chowhall and Tarash thanas due to swelling of the Jamuna Some 25 villages were submerged in the three thanas

A total ol 195 villages in six thanas of the district have been flooded so far. officials said

Nearly one core people ol 50 worst affected villages in Kazlpur Sadar Chowhall Belkuchi and Shahjadpur thanas have been marooned while 78,000 people affected.

Tlie newly flooded unions are: Mesta. Kendua. Adra. Pu galdia. Gomaritola and Syam-ganj Kalibari. With this. 22 unions of the district's six thanas — Sadar. Melandah. Sarisabari. Madarganj, Boxiganj and Dewanganj — were affected by the nioonson flood ing.

A large portion of Dalupara ghat in Sarishabari poiirasava were eroded in the last few days due to strong current in the Jamuna, which was flowing above its danger mark at Ja-gannathganj ghat and Ba-nadurabad ghat.

Road communication be -tween Sarisabari and Jamalpur district headquarters re malned snapped for last eight days after a diversion road at Kendua was washed awav by flood water.

In Bogra district, flood situation deteriorated further with the inundation of fresh areas in Sariakandi. Dhunat and Sonatala thanas, leaving some 30.000 people marooned.
