SIRAJGANJ. July 6: Erosion of Jamuna have further turned serious with rise in the water level of Jamuna.

About 1O0 feet area of Brahmaputra flood control embankment at Dhitpur in Shahzadpur thana was washed away and the breach caused flood ih at least 30 villages of five unions in Shahzadpur thana. The worst affected unions are Porzona, Gala. Kaizuri and Rupbati.

It is learnt from the flood control room of Sirajganj Water Development Board (WDB) that water level in Jamuna have been rising alarmingly at Sirajganj ghat point. Meanwhile. the launch and ferry ghats were shifted twice. The Sirajganj town protection embankment at the ferryghat point is also threatened by erosion.

Following rise in the water level of Jamuna, the tributary rivers including Gumani. Karo-toa and Bangalee have also swelled affecting vast areas of Chalanbeel oriented Tarash and Raiganj thanas. The situation may further worsen within next few days.
