Chief Adviser Muhammad Habibur Rahman yesterday re viewed the production and supply of water and power In Dhaka and elsewhere in the country at separate meetings with the high officials of the ministries concerned, reports UNB.

The marketing of school text books and the state of law and order also came up for consideration during the dis-cusstons

Secretary. Ministry of Local Government Syed Alamglr Faruq Chowdhuiy informed the Chief Adviser of the ongoing, interim and proposed schemes to meet water deficit in the city presenting a detailed picture of production and distribution of water.

He told the Chief Adviser that 82 crore litres of water were being supplied as against the requirement of 130 crore litres tn the city rveiyday This 48 crore litres deficit rises during the dry season. the secretary told the Chief Adviser

The secretary tolc( him that seven deep tubewells had been commissioned from April 1 to Increase water supply In the city by 2.5 crore litres a day

The secretary informed the Chief Adviser of the Installation of eight more deep tubewells by the end of this month.

The Chief Adviser held sep arate discussion with the Adviser In charge of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Re sources Dr Jamllur Reza Chowdhury and Secretary of the Ministry Dr SA Samad on the production and transmission of power supply through out the country

He was told that 1600 to 1800 rnega watts of power were being supplied at present throughout the country as against Its total requirement 1950 mega watts a day

The Power Secretary told the Chief Adviser that reduc tlon In gas supply by gas fields to the power stations, sharp (all In water level In Kaptal Hy dro-electric Project and repair and rehabilitation of power plants are the causes of power shortage.

The Chief Adviser also had separate discussion with Home Secretary Syed Rezaul Hayat on the prevailing law and order ol the country and the progress in arms recovery operation

He was informed that so far 4 000 illegal arms had been recovered and 40.000 people booked for possessing unau

thorised arms Besides, they had other allegations against them.

Referring to some recent untoward incidents, the Chief Adviser directed the law enforcing agencies to take ap-riropriate legal actions against he culprits responsible for such crimes and commissions.

The Chief Adviser directed all concerned to take appro priate measures for holding the June 12 election in a free, fair and impartial manner.

He was apprised of appointments of 1800 magistrates to assist the Election Commission and law enforcing agencies in maintaining law and order and conduct the election peacefully

Additional Secretary of Education Ministry M Shahldul Alam explained to the Chief Adviser about the crisis of text books supply to students of Class six and nine.
