Tlie Election Commission (EC) has finally sent to the Chief Adviser the report of an enquiry committee after it apparently failed to determine which party had first sought permission for holding a public meeting at the Manik Mia Avenue on June 10.

As many as 49 days have elapsed since the two major parties — the Awami League and the BNP — have been trying to secure permission to hold their last public meeting ahead of the June 12 polls.

Both the parties immediately after the polls date announced on April 27. had de dared the time and venue of their last projection meeting.

A ban on all election cam-Bgns, as per law. 48 hours ore the polls date comes into effect.

that neither AL nor BNP is likely to get permission for holding public meeting on their desired venue on the June 10. Both the parties may be advised to arrange their rallies at other venues they added.

The Electoral Enquiry Committee, in its report submitted to the EC on May 31. said that it received no documentary proof to determine which party had first sought permission for the rally.

The committee, comprising sub-judge Nurul Islam and senior Judge Atiquf Rahman of Dhaka earlier heard the representatives of the DCC. the DMP. the AL. the BNP and the Tejgaon. Mohammadpur and Dhanmondi thanas following an AL complaint lodged with the EC.
