A presidium meeting of the Gano Forum (GF) yesterday expressed its resentment over dropping the provision for banning use of religious places for election campaign in the code of conduct announced by the Election Commission, reports BSS.

The meeting observed that although a consensus was developed among the major political parties during the discussion with the Election Commission over banning election campaign from mosques, mandirs, pagodas, churches and all other places of worship, the EC in the face of threat of certain quarters dropped it finally from the election code of conduct. This is not only tantamount to show disregards towards the majority parties but also generated question about the sovereign power of the EC. the meeting observed.

The meeting termed this decision of the Election Commission as contradictory to the spirit of the Chief Election Commissioner's address to the nation as well as the Ideals of liberation struggle.
