GLASGOW. Apr 3: • Controversial England star Paul Gascoigne could cap a typically colourful season by landing Scotland's top player-of -the-year award, reports AFP.

Scotland's 1.000 professionals were issued with voting forms on Monday to decide who wins, the accolade of their peers and the Rangers midfielder — in his first season in Scottish football — is favourite to collect the title.

His Rangers colleague Brian Laudrup was a runaway winner of the Professional Footballers Association award last season and will be strongly considered again.

But Gascoigne, who has scored 15 goals and collected 13 domestic yellow cards since his 4.3 million pound move from Italian side Lazio, may Just receive the highest number of votes.

The Celtic pair, Dutchman Pierre van Hooydonk and German Andreas Thom, are among those threatening the England midfielder's hopes of winning the players' selection.

Players cqnnot vote for a player for their own club and forms must be submitted by April 5 before the winner Is announced at dinner on April 28.
