Rashed Khan Menon, general secretary of Workers Party yesterday called upon the caretaker government to bring the prices of essentials, within the purchasing power of the commonmen and also to ensure supply of fertilisers and diesel oil at fair prices in North Bengal if it is to enjoy the spontaneous support from the people, reports BSS.

Speaking at a meeting of the politburo chaired by party president Amal Sen. Menon said people cannot remain content merely by attaining the right to vote. They must have the opportunity to work and earn their break till the election, he said.

The politburo in a resolution demanded that a system be evolved to bar civil and military bureaucrats from taking part in elections within five years of their retirement to ensure neutrality of the administration and misuse of official power.
