They agreed to mbet again in London in 1998 and in South Korea in 2000. setting the stage for closer relations between two continents linked in the past by commerce or colonialism.

Fifteen European Union ' (EU) and 10 Asian leaders took part in the two-day summit, aimed at promoting a "balance'' among the three poles of world economic growth: Europe. North America and Asia.

- Leaders formed an Asia-Europe partnership for greater growth aimed at strengthening links between Asia and Europe to contribute to peace, global stability and prosperity

- Leaders vowed to promote the effective reform and greater democratization pf the United Nations system

Informal senior officials meeting to be held in Brussels on ways to promote economic

cooperation between the regions. and in particular on ways to facilitate trade and investment .

- A government and private sector working group to meet in Thailand to draw up an Asia-Europe investment promotion action plan within six moqths aimed at improving, two-way investment

- An Asia-Europe business forum to hold its inaugural meeting in France in 1995 and the next in Thailand

- An ASia-Europe foundation lo be set up in Singapore with contributions from countries of both regions

The next ASEM meeting to be held in two years in Bri-'tain and the third in South Korea in the year 2000
