LANCE Naik Munshi" Abdur Rouf xvas born in Faridpur under Bo-alkhaii thana in Sal’amatpur village. Abdur Rouf was born in the year of 1943 in the month of May, his father's name was Munshi Mehdi Hossain and his mother’s name xvas Mokldoon Nesa.

His father xxias an imam of the mosque and had little land, so the family had to pass their days in hardship. Munshi Abdur Roufs first ed ucation came from his father.

When his father died he xvas very young. After Munshi Mehdi's death Mukidoon Nesa had to take over the charge of the family and life became even harder for them. So even though, he was a good student, he studied till class IV and then to maintain his family he had to join the army at a tender age

So, in the month ot Mav in 1969 he joined the East Pakistan Rifles of dial time Rouf did not forget about the promise he made to his mother when lie was going and asked his mother to ar range the marriage for his younger sister and he would come home with new saree

But could not come home xvith the saree because the war started to fiee Bangladesh from the ihitrhes of the West Pakistani regime

Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rouf was the No-1 operator of the middle size machine gun. Before the 25th March of 1971 he used to work in the 11th xving in Chittagong, and after the war started he joined the East Bengal regiment.

The war has just started there, the Muktibahtni's just started building small resis tance. They were gathering, their strength. The Ranga-mati Muhalshori was a important place in the Hill Tracts. It was used as a passage by the Pakistani army To resist them from using it further one of the companies of the 8th Bengal build up detence along the two sides of a shrimp farm in the Borighat area. Rouf was a soldier in this Company.

It was the Sth of April 1971. About two battalion of Pakistani soldiers were com ing towards Borighat xvith seven speed boat and two launches. Two speed txrats were coming with great speed to attack tins place and capture it from the Mok tibahints and tn then ^pr^J Iroat tfirv haci < ... i >i ma

the Muktibahinis took position and rain of bullets xvere coming towards them. The 6" motor of the enemy traced the position of the Muk-tibahini s they attacked.

Lance Naik Rouf understood that if it continued this way than all of them could "die. he asked the soldiers to go back.

Rouf alone stood up xvith the machine gun and fired constantly at the enemy speed boat, due to the constant firing the enemies lost all its speed boat and the Pakistan soldiers xvere hurt. At this surprising loss the Pakistani's became afraid. The two launches backed away from the range of Roufs machine gun and taking a good shelter from a distance attacked the whole area with 2 motor, one of them hit directly at Rouf and he was thrown axvav
