JAKARTA. Dec 31: Indonesia's production of unhusked rice Increased by an estimated four per cent to 32 rriillibn tons this year, the official Antara news agency reported Saturday, reports AP.

The increase was two percentage points below the target set by the Department of Agriculture, it said.

■ Antara quoted the minister of Agriculture Sljarifudln Baharasjah as saying that rice production was affected by problems with fertilizer distribution and by the conversion of rice fields into residential and industrial areas.

We will have to work harder to have an increase of at least five per cent next year." he said.

The government plans to convert one million hectares (2.47 million ■acres) of swamp and wasteland in central Kalimantan into agricultural and land and about two thirds of the area will be developed as rice fields and the rest for other crops.

Indonesia, formerly the biggest-rice importer in the world, became self sufficient in rice In 1984. However, domestic production declined substantially because of a prolonged dry season.
