CHITTAGONG. Dec . 31: Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury today set a fresh deadline — January 15 — for acceptance of his 28-point charter of demand for the development of Chittagong.

Earlier, the Mayor had set December 16 as the deadline for the government to accept the demands.

Addressing a press conference at the conference hall of the City Corporation, the Mayor said that they would go for 'continuous pro-

grammes' in Chittagong from January 20 if the demands were not met by January 15. The deadline had been extended to give more time to the government to think over the demands made by him. he added.

"Otherwise, barricades will be put up to block the transportation of goods from Chittagong to other parts of the country from January 20." the Mayor said.

He referred to the postponement of today's pro-

gramme of barricade over Dhaka-Chittagong highway and said this was due to the observance of country-wide barricade programme yesterday.

Mohiuddin claimed that the demands raised by him were the demands of the people of Chittagong. "But I don't press for implementing the demands overnight. The government may fulfil those in phases also."

Without naming. Mohiuddin alleged that a minister was creating obstacles in the functioning of Chittagong City Corporation. The minister was also trying to get the files of the corporation in other ministries shelved, he further alleged.
