The government has received for the first time 287.500*US dollars as compensation recently from the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) for 68 repatriated Bangladeshis victimised during the war between Iraq and Kuwait, reports BSS.

Labour and Manpower Minister Mir Shawkat All yesterday formally handed over

the cheques of this compensation to the injured and the relatives of those killed dur ihg the war. who are treated as B' category claimants. The compensation varies from 2500 to 10.000 dollars per person.

In all, 95 B' category claims were received by the government and sent to the UNCC trough Bangladeshi mission in Geneva for providing necessary compensation.

The UNCC has also decided to compensate another 11 B' category claimants out of the rest.

Speaking at a simple ceremony on the occasion, held under the auspices of the Bureau of Manpower at Kakrail. the labour and manpower minister reiterated that the government was very much aware of the suffering of the Bangladeshi repatriates.
