Awami League activists burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia during a rally on Mlrpur Road yesterday, reports UNB.

A group of youth set fire to the four feet tall effigy near the intersection of I’.inthapath and Mfrpur Road yesterday afternoon.

"Die rally presided over by Fazlur Rahman Raju, was addressed by Abdul Mannan. Tofael Ahmed. Abdur Razzaque, Suranjit Sengupta. Dr. Mohammad Selim, Habibur Rahman Habib and Enamul Huq Shamim.

Abdul Mannan told the rally that there would be no elections If government Ig nored the people's demand for a caretaker government to oversee the elections.

He said the BNP was trying to stage an elections with some smaller parties as was done in 1988. ,

Tofael Ahmed said the Opposition would not take paet«. in the elections, the schedule of which was announced by Prime Minister Begum Kb tleda Zia through the Chlei Election Commissioner, whom he (Tofael) described as her "yes man."
