RANGPUR. Dec 11: A prospective iron mine with huge stocks of Improved quality of iron is lying untapped for the last three decades at PlrgonJ thana area under the district about 25 miles off from the district headquarter.

According to an information received from the elderly people, after Indo-Pak war in 1965 the Ministry of the Mineral Resources of the then Pakistan held an aerial survey and took help for satellite in detecting hidden underground reserve of mineral resources in the northern part of the then East Pakistan. During the survey a team of experts who were conducting the task successively detected an Iron mine in the bordering point of Sanerhat and Mithipur unions under Plrgonj thana.

The team bored four pipes and held different tests at the site and detected iron mine only under 900 feet below the surface. The mine spread 10 kilometres in ra-

dius and the stocks of the iron preliminary estimated would be several millions metric tonnes.
