Arichaghat Relocation Resistance Committee yesterday threatened to disrupt road and river communicaUous for an indefinite period if their demand was not met by Thursday.

The warning came from a three-hour long sit-in on Dhaka-Aricha highway staged by the committee protesting the government decision to relocate the Arichaghat to Barurla, 9 km downstream from the ghat.

A rally was held at 9 am on the road near the Shlbalaya government High School. It was addressed, among others, by convenor of the Ghat Relocation Resistance Committee and Shlbalaya Thana BNP President Hamidur Rahman Khan, Former upazila chairman All Akbar and JP leader Afzal Hossain Khan.

Speakers at the rally criticised the government's decision to relocate the Arichaghat to Baruria and they also announced a halfday hartal programme on October 12. if the government decision is not reversed.

The government decided to solve the problem of traffic jam at Arichaghat by transferring to Baruria and sanctioned Taka 19.75 crore in this regard recently.
