According to the available siatislics about 60 per cent ' ol the nearly 29,000 students , of the DU come from differ ent districts.

Sources concerned said 80 per cent of the total vacant seats are kept for allotment to the honours final years students while the rest 20 per cent to the masters final year students. If seats remain vacant after the allotment to them, 60 per cent of those are allotted to the second year honours students. 30 per cent to the first year honours students and the rest 10 per cent to the masters first part students. But hardly any seat remains vacant.
Consequently two. three or even more students are compelled to live In a single seat or on the floor.
Some resident students of the halls complained that besides normal allotment, the hall authorities are forced to reserve a considerable number of seats for supporters of various student bodies.
Accommodation problem Is more acute In the women's halls of the university. The three women s halls can accommodate about 1700 students while more than 2500 students are living there.
"Almost all the students of Shamsunnahar Hall haw to share their seats throughout the university life." said a house tutor of Shamsunnahar Hall
The foreign students are however, given preference during allotment she Mid. adding, "we try to allot seats to all foreign students.'
