EUGENE. Oregon. June 5: Three year's best marks were posted Sunday in a starstudded turnout for the Prefontaine Classic athletics meet at Ha-yard Field at the University of Oregon, reports Reuter.

Steve Holman posted the best time in the mile and fellow American Derek Mills established the fastest time this year in the 400 metres, while Marla Mutola of Mozambique turned in the best time of the year over 1.000 metres.

Mutola won the women * 1.000 in two minutes 32.33 second*, not far off of the world record of 2:30.67.

Mutola was pushed hard by American Suzy Hamilton, who set a US record of 2:33.93 breaking the old mark of 2:34.04.

In a loaded field In the men s mile. Holman won in 3:52.89 a* he edged fellow American Terance Herrington who finished in 3:53.64 Thirteen of the 17 runner* finished in under four minute*.

Mill* won the 400 in 44.13. Darnell Hall, the world indoor champion, took second in 44.37 while Butch Reynolds, the world record holder at 43.19. was third in 44.91.

Carl Lewis training for yet another Olympic berth, took second to Michael Johnson In the 200 metres. Johnson, the 1991 world champion, won in 20.15 while Lewis clocked 20.47

Gailk Davers, the Olympic gold medalist In the 100. took a shot at the 100 hurdle* and won in 12.84 to set a meet record.

Seven meet record* were broken in the featured men and womens event.
