Tlie Ai Hi-Corruption Bureau yesterday arrested Dr M Rafiquzzman. a former advisor to deposed president Ershad. on charge of defalcation of a bank loan of over Tk 10 crore, according to a press release of the Bureau.

The Bureau said that Railquzzaman was arrested in connection with a case of embezzling and illegally transferring out of the country an amount of Tk 10.85,55,480 in bank loans from the Bangladesh Shilpa Bank starting in 1989. The loan was taken In the name of Rafi Systems Ltd. a Banani-based firm of which Raflquzzaman is chairman.

The Bureau press release issued last night added that the bank loan was taken in the cooperation of deposed presi dent Ershad.

Earlier in August 1992. the Bureau had filed an FIR with

Molijheel Thana on the dxve charges against eight |ersons. including Raflquzzainan who had left the country Just before Ershad s downfall In 1990. The Bureau descritred him as the principal accused Ip the case.

He was reportedly picked up yesterday from his Bananl office.

Ramna police confirmed last nighl that Rafiquzzaman. who was appointed Ershad's advisor for computer affairs with the rank of a deputy minister. was being detained al the station and said that he would lx- produced lx-lorc the CMM s court today.
