CHITTAGONG. Aug 28: The parliamentary sub-committee on hill tracts affairs and Shantibahini leaders during informal talks held today agreed to extend the ceasefire until. November 30 in order to continue the peace-talks to solve the problems in CHT.

The third round of informal talks lasting five hours from 10 am at Dudukchhari border village under Panchari thana of Khagrachhari hill district was attended by a four-member team of Shantibahini leaders headed by Shanto Larma. president of the Parbattya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS)

The parliamentary subcommittee included Rashad Khan Menon. Kalparanjan Chakma. Md Shahjahan and Shahjahan Chowdhury. Both sides had detailed discussions on how to narrow down their differences of opinion for an early settlement of the CHT issue.

Convenor of the Sub-Co mmiltee Rashed Khan Menon MP said the meeting was successful and held in cordial atmosphere, according to UNB.

"We have reached a delicate stage in the discussion" and gone a long way towards bringing peace in the area, he said.

Menon added: "The problem in Chittagong Hill Tracis will be solved politically." The two sides will meet again in November.

The five-point demand of the PCJSS discussed in the meeting includes one adminis trative unit for the entire re gion dissolving the three existing Local Government Councils at Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban districts, withdrawal of the post-1947 set tiers and the Army from the hill tracts region, and constitutional guarantee for peace in the area.
