Jahangir Alam, a 35-year-old businessman and Pradip Kumar Roy. 17. were stabbed to death in two separate incidents in the city’s Motijheel and Kot wall thana areas yesterday.

Another businessman. Abdul Barek. who was with Jahangir, was also stabbed seriously and was fighting for his life at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)

Pradip was stabbed by some local bullies at Johnson Road in the early hours Sunday and expired at the DMCH soon after admission.

According to witnesses four to five unidentified gang sters. in their twenties, lay in wait on the ground floor of Sharif Mansion in the city's busy Motijheel Commercial area yesterday afternoon At around 3 pm. when Jahangir Alam and his companion Abdul Barek. 40. came down after at tending a meeting of the Bangladesh Vegetable Expor ters' Association in the seventh floor of the building, their assailants pounced upon them No sooner had the two exporters stepped out of the elevator, they were attacked and stabbed indiscriminately.

Jahangir lay motionless in a pool of blood while Barek. bleeding profusely, kept screaming for help. The assailants fled the scene imme diaiely, leaving behind a blood stained knife.

Both victims were rushed to the DMCH where Jahangir was declared dead by the attending physicians. Barek was admitted and needed emergency surgery. His condition was stated to be critical.

Motljheel thana recovered the knife and are investigating into the crime.

No arrests had been made in connection with either incident till writing of this report late last night.

Meanwhile, the fish, fruit and vegetable exporters have condemned the killing of Jahangir Alam and demanded punishment of the culprits. As their mark of protest they will observe a strike today (Monday).
