The budget session of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) begins this afternoon with the Opposition parties still bent on boyediting the proceedings of the House.

The national budget for fiscal 1994-95 is likely to be placed on June 9.

Meanwhile. Speaker Shaikh Razzak All Is learnt to have been trying hard to bring the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Opposition in Parliament closer to resolve the present political Impasse.

The crisis has been created due to the Opposition demand

for holding general elections under a caretaker government and the ruling party’s refusal to entertain the idea. The Opposition, however, ruled out the possibility of any dialogue in stich a situation.

Shaikh Razzak All, however, told newsmen yesterday that the leaders of the opposing camps are likely to hold an official meeting today to discuss ways of ending the present crisis. Replying to a question, the Speaker also said it would be a pre-summlt meeting.

Prime Minister and Leader of the House Begum Khaleda Zia to have a dialogue with the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Sheikh Hasina to resolve the crisis and Begum Zia responded positively to the proposal, the Speaker told reporters at his office yesterday morning. He. however, said that the ground had to be prepared for the success of the proposed 'summit-level meeting', and talks between the leaders of the two sides Could be held to that end.

The Speaker also Informed the newsmen that he had been trying to talk to the leader of the Opposition but could not do so as yet.

Replying to a question Razzak All also said that it was his moral duty to help the opposing camps resolve any crisis concerning Parliament "I am ready to visit, if necessary, the residence of any Parliament member for ending the impasse." he said.

Opposition Chief Whip Mohamad Nasim, while brief ing newsmen at the Sangsad Bhaban yesterday, said. "We shall not attend the budget session unless the ruling party moves a bill seeking constitutional provision for holding national elections under a caretaker administration

Earlier, leaders of the opposition parties had a closed-door discussion on the latest political situation with Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Briefing reporters, the Opposition Chief Whip said, the government has neither taken any effective step nor shown any interest in resolving the crisis. Rather, "unguarded comments madeby certain cabinet ministers had further complicated the situation." Nasim added.

When his attention was drawn to the Speaker s optimism about a dialogue. Nasim ruled out any such possibility, saying: The situation remains unchanged "with no government step to meet the Opposition demand. So there is, no scope for a dialogue with the ruling party leaders.J

Meanwhile. Gana Forum (GF) leader Shamahuddoha MP. Is leamt to have differed with his colleagues in the Opposition on the Issue of boycotting Parliament sessions.

According to meeting sources, the GF leader pro posed a dialogue with the ruling party on the issue; of a caretaker government.

Shamshuddoha said at yesterday^ meeting that parliamentary democracy did not ■permit the Opposition to boycott parliament sessions. The GF is. hoWever. yet to decide whether Its MPs would return to the House.

In an another development, the Business Advisory committee of the Sangsad met yester day morning.

No Opposition member attended the JS advisory body meeting.

Shamshuddoha. while talk-Ing to The Daily Star last night, said."I was willing to attend the meeting but I could not do so because I was stuck up in the Opposition meeting, held almost at the same time."

The Opposition leaders are scheduled to meet-again at the Sangsad Bhaban this morning.
