The Queen's University of Canada conferred honorary degree of Doctor of Law to F H Abed. Founder and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC), according to a message received here yesterday, reports UNB

The degree was conferred at a largely attended convocation of the university held at its campus in Kingston. Canada, on Friday.

Abed was honoured for his remarkable achievement in establishing the BRAC and specially the educational programmes which it has developed to address the devastating effects of illiteracy among the landless and rural poor "

The citation referred to his "persuasive promotion of power of eduction to change the life of an Individual and by extension a nation of 125 mil lion.'

In reply to ihe honour. F H Abed said, "this honour belonged truly to the people of Bangladesh who wage relent less struggle against multiple odds as the real performers in the history "

He added the BRAC experl ence is a reflection of the ca pacity of the people for hard work, innovation and achieve ment.
