Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdullah Al-Noman yesterday informed the Jatiya Sangsad that the export earnings from fish was expected to be 175 million US dollar during the current fiscal, reports BSS

Ninety per cent of the export earnings during the period would come from export of shrimps he added.

The Fisheries and Livestock Minister told the Jatiya Sangsad that the country's earnings from export of fish re sources Including shrimps would exceed Taka 2.000 crore by'the turn of the current cen tury.

Replying to a question from Sharafuddln Kashru (AL), the minister said the earning from export of 14.234 metric tons of shrimp was Taka 471.57 crore during the first six months of the current fiscal (July to December).

The question of Kashru was raised by a Treasury Bench member as the Opposition boycotted the Sangsad session for the second day yesterday.

Tk 6,891 cr allocated to WDB

State Minister for Irrigation, Water Development and Flood Control Mosharraf Hossain Shahjahan said over TAka 6,891.37 crore was allocated to Water Development Broad (WDB) in annual development programmes (ADP) from the fiscal year 1972-73 to 1993-94.

Replying to a question from Shahduzzman of Jamaat the state minister said of the total ADP allocation, about Taka 2.715.02 crore was from local resources and about Taka 4,146.35 crore as project assistance.

In the absence of opposition parties at the Sangsad. the question was raised by BNP member Nurul Islam MorU

han told the Jatiya Sangsad that 4305.56 kilometre long coastal embankment had been constructed along the country's coastal belt during the fiscal 1960-61 to 1992-93.

Replying to a question from Zainul Abedin Hazarl (AL) raised by a Treasury Bench member In the wake of continued boycott of the House by the combined opposition, the state minister said three types of embankments had been con structed These are sea dike, interior dike and marginal dike

Shahjahan said the government had a plan to construct more 1081 kilometre long cm bankment along the coast.

3,154 sacked under

PO9, Martial Law

State Minister for Establishment Barrister Mohammad ' Amlnul Hoq yesterday informed the Jatiya Sangsad that 919 officers and employees had been sacked under the provision of Presidential Order (PO) Number Nine of 1972 and 2235 officers and employees under Martial Law Order Number Nine of 1982.

Replying to a question from BNP member Begum Roushan ATa Hena. the state minister said that of the persons sacked under PO Number Nine of 1972.406 were officers and 513 employees.

UNB adds: The rivers have devoured one lakh 30- thousand and 208 hectares of land since independence. Irrigation, Water Development and Flood Control Minister Majid-ul Huq said in parliament.

Replying to Shahjahan Chowdhury (Jamaat). the minister said the government has taken steps to protect towns and other areas from river erosion.

"It is very difficult and expensive to tame rivers." he said
