With the nearing of the Eid-ul-Fitr, the shopping spree was felt at few of the prominent markets of the city. Many of the city markets, however, are yet to pick up sales.

The prices of commodities remained nearly stable compared to the last year’s Eid market.

As was expected by the shop owners, the sale has taken a sharp rise after the pay-day on March 1. But one shopkeeper at the New Market apprehended that the real Eid sales will begin from Friday.

Despite the ongoing load-shadings, the market owners continued to illuminate their markets to allure the buyers.

Interestingly, the local garments arc competing and arc probably in a better position compared to the foreign ones.

"Earlier, we used to put foreign tags on local garments, but people are now buying local products," one shopowner at New Elephant Road observed.

As estimated yesterday, the prices of local cotton trousers range between Tk 250 and 500, best quality local jeans between Tk 700 and 1200. adults T-shirts Tk 200 and 300, and shirts Tk 200 to 800.

For the local garments ‘ products many of the buyers flocked to Bangabazar Hawkers Market and the sidewalk-market opposite to the Dhaka College.

The most expensive market, according to a buyer. 1s Isha Khan Market at Kakrail while the most reasonable one is at Mouchak.

On the working days the markets were frequented by the members of the fair sex who poured Into the saree shops at the Baily Road. Traditional Mirpur Katan. soft and half silk. Tan gall Half silk. Jamdant, Rajshahi silk, Baluchury and Kanchubaran are few of the brands tn demand.

Panjabi, which is the most sought after men's dress, is being bought from different handicrafts shops Instead of the markets. The prices of the panjabis range between Tk 150 to Tk 2,500. New Elephant Road continued to be l he shoes haven where footwears are sold for Tk 200 to Ik 5000.
