Police foiled conflicting programmes of the Sampradaikata Birodhi Chhatra SamaJ (SBCS) and the Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), both scheduled to be held at tha Institute of Engineers premises yesterday.

Th4 Students wing of the Jama^-e-Islami. the ICS had scheduled its two-day conference wm yesterday.

Hi/SBCS. an antl-conimu nal student group and alliance, of 14 student organisations, announced to resist the ICS programme in order to "uphold the spirit of the Liberation War

Ths authorities prohibited meetings. rallies and proces Bions and imposed Section 144 at the,Engineers Institute area for 48 hours from Thursday midnight to avoid any |K>sslble clash.

The SBCS brought out a processton at around 11 am from Modhu's Canteen premises of Dhaka University yesterday morning which tried to march towards the meeting venue. Police resisted the processionists from getting in to the Institute premises.

Meanwhile, the ICS had postponed its programme at the Engineers' Institute and held a rally at the north gate of the Baltul Mukarram Mosque at the same time.

Poljce took strict security measures round the ICS rally to avoid any violent incident. The Ghatak Dalal Nlrmul Committee office which is close to the venue of the rally, was also guarded during this time.
