BEIJING. Dec 31: China said Friday It was abolishing import licenses or quotas on 283 items, including aircraft and fruit, and disclosed a list of 18 items that remain under quotas, reports AP.

The move is part of China's effort to bring its trade system into line, with international practice.' It also fulfills an agreement with the United States to phase out secret trade rulps.

The trade ministry said it Is abolishing import licensing requirements as of Saturday for civilian aircraft, assembly line equipment, coffee products and cobalt products.
