COLOMBO. Dec 31: Presl-.dent Dingiri Banda Wijetunga called today for unity and peace in 1994 but at the same time repeated his earlier hawkish promise to wipe out "terrorism" and end ^hrl Lanka s long standing ethnic conflict. reports AFP

"Our theme for the new year should be singular dedication to the creation of a united Shri Lanka. Let the year 1994 be the year of justice, peace and stability." Wijetunga said in a message for the new year

“The need for all Shri Lankan to stand united, forget ting all differences of race religion or caste, and shedding petty political differences for the good of all. is felt today more than ever before." Wijetunga said

But Wijetunga said he wanted to eliminate "terrorism" in the northeast.
