The Centre for Advanced Research in Humanities of Dhaka University held a seminar on "The Language of Old Dhaka” Tuesday with noted dramatist Saeed Ahmed In the chair, reports BSS.

Dr Rajib Humayun Kabir. Chairman of the Department of Linguistic presented the keynote paper in the seminar while Prof Abdul Momin Chowdhury of History Department and Prof. Rafiqul Islam of Bangla Department took part in the discussion.

Dr Rajib Humayun, in his key-note paper, discussed the origin and expansion of Bengal and Urdu languages of the dwellers of old Dhaka. He also focused on the "Kutti community" of the old part of the city.

Other speakers at the seminar stressed the need for further research and preservation of languages of the inhabitants of old Dhaka.

Dr Fakrula Alam. Director of the centre conducted the seminar.
