Noor Hossain, in his twenties. was killed in police firing during the 'Dhaka Siege' programme organised by the then three major political alliances agalnst the autocratic rule of the Ershad government on this day In 1987

The day was marked by a series of people-police clashes in the capital during the Awami League's attempt to stage a sit-in in front of the Bangladesh Secretariat. The AL programme, aimed at lodging protests against the BNP government s misrule', was announced in observance of the day

The ruling BNP and the opposition Jamaat-e-lslami. Gano Forum, the alliance of 10 left parties Including the CPB. JAGPA. Ganotantrl Party. Ganotantrick Chhatra Oikya and other organisations organised discussions and rallies at ■ different parts of the city and elsewhere in the country to mark the day.

Besides, wreaths were placed at the Noor Hossain Square. Quran Khwani was held and fateha offered at Hossain's grave in Juraln. The Shaheed Noor Hossain Parishad carried out programmes like hoisting black flag, wearing black badges and holding a mllad martfll on the occasion.
