MADARIPUR, Sept 8: The number of Jobless female labourers 1n four thanas of the district Is on rise due to growing economic stringency for quite a long time, reports UNB.

About 7,000 women labourers are used to earn their livelihood by husking paddy and working in brickfields and road development works under food for works programme in the dtstricL

Most of them have become Jobless due to completion of the projects and introduction of rice mills and are passing their days in'great hardship, local people said.

The next schemes under the food for works have yet to be started In the district while opportunities in agricultural sector has also decreased to a great extent due to recurrent floodings and other natural calamities.

Finding no other alternative, a good number of young girls are pouring Into the thana and district headquarters to earn their livelihood. Having failed to get any Job many of them are resorting to immoral activities to eke out their living.
