KARACHI, July 6: World squash champion Jansher Khan said Tuesday that he was confused at being stripped of his world number one ranking, reports AFP.

"It Is unbelievable that I am no more the world number one," he said, expressing hin shock at the decision by the Professional Squash Association (PSA).

The 24-year-pld Pakistani, who held the top ranking for 14 months, was unaware that the PSA board at its head.quar-ters 1n Cardiff had deposed him for pulling out o'f three tournaments within six months.

Australian Chris Dlttmar, whom Jansher Khan defeated in 11 successive Unais, has been promoted on technical grounds to number one position in the latest tanking list.

Khan had last withdrawn from the French Open In April when he went home to see his mother, who had suffered a heart attack.

Jansher has suffered Just one defeat this year, winning five other major events of the 1993 world squash calendar.

"Roger Eady (PSA executive director) lold me Just a couple of days back that I am world number one in the new rankings," Khan remarked in an interview published here Tuesday. "Now you tell me I am not. This is confusing." he added.

Mohibullah, Jansher's elder brother and coach, alleged that Khan was discriminated against.

"They gave my brother a zero score In the French Open because he is a Pakistani. The case would have been different if an Australian, or of any other player was Involved."

He cited an example of another Pakistani player, Zubair Jahan, who while playing in the Australian Open last year, was asked to waft because his Australian opponent Tristan Nancarrow was delayed, nursing his sick wife in a nearby town.

"Nancarrow was excused on compassionate grounds, but when it came to Jansher, the PSA becomes strict in enforcing rules. This is no Justice," Mohibullah said.
