Speakers at a scientific seminar yesterday noted that antl-gastrlc drug 'omeprazole' has certain benefits in acid control among patients who are resistant to other conventional antl-acid drugs

Leading drug manufacturers like BEXIMCO and Square Pharmaceuticals have started producing omeprazole for the first time In Bangladesh less than a month ago.

At the seminar on "Proton pump blockers In acid peptic diseases" organised by Bangladesh Gastroenterology Society, speakers agreed that since the drug wa? newly introduced in the country, proper understanding of the pharmacology and clinical Implications of omeprazole would help ensure the rational use of the drug and thus render maximum benefit to the pa tlent care services

The seminar sponsored by Bexlmco Pharmaceuticals Ltd was presided over by Prof A K Azad Khan while Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology Deptt. IPGMR Dr Atlqul Hoq presented a paper on "Basic aspects of proton pump inhtbi tion" and Associate Professor of the same deptt Dr M Tycbur Rahman presented a paper on "Clinical aspects of proton pump Inhibition.
