Education Minister Barrister Jamlruddin Sircar Tuesday urged all concerned to enstire peoples' participation in the national efforts to provide education for all by the year 2000, reports BSS.

He made this call while inaugurating a day-long workshop on national planning to ensure education for all at the Academy of Planning and Development here.

Chaired by the Secretary of Primary aqd Mass Education Division, Kazi Pakibuddin Ahmed. State Minister for Education Principal Eunus Khan attended the function as a special guest.

Sircar said since the 19th century. education in Bangladesh was never aimed at inclusion of masses. It was shaheed President Ziaur Rahman who third to change the course through Introducing mass literacy programme In 1989, he said.

The minister said the present government has taken up allout efforts to remove the menace of Illiteracy from the society viewing it as the prerequisite to overall development.

In this regard, he explained various state initiatives includ-

ing mass education programme, side by side formal schooling so that adult people could also get the scope of education.

Held under the auspices of primary and mass education division, eminent educationists, experts, and ago representatives participated In the workshop to formulate a draft planning on primary and mass education In the country.

Speaking principal Eunus Khan emphasised on development of accountable system in this sector to make it a success.

He also urged all to mobilise a social campaign focusing need of education particularly in the present day period.

Presenting the draft outline of nationalplan of action, for education for all, former chairman of Public Service Commission Alhussalnee stressed the need for relating education to the needs of the society and producing properly trained and motivated citizens to serve those needs.

He said the allocation for both development and reventa expenditures for the primary and mass education sector increased.
