Fastest man of the country Golam Ambia of Bangladesh Army has been elected the best sportsman for the year 1992 by the Bangladesh Sports Writers' Association (BSWA) yesterday.

He will receive the S A Mohsin memorial trophy for his brilliant contribution In the field of athletics.

Ambia, the fleet-footed sprinter, also received the Bangladesh Sports Journalists' Association's award last year for hts performances in 1991.

Twelve other players and sports personalities of the

country will also receive the BSWA awards,

Rizvi Karim Rumi, the national striker of league champions Abahanl Krlra Chakra, has been adjudged the best footballer of the year white national batsman burly Akram Khan, also of Abahanl. has been

named the best cricketer during that period.

Mohammad Sadck of Ajax Sports Club will receive the award for his performances in hockey.

National record holder tn the hammer throw Manlmul Haq of Army and Jyotshna Afroz of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation have been declared as best male and female athletes of 1992.

National soccer coach Kazi Salahuddln, who leaves for Japan with the team today, will receive the best coach award.

Others who will receive prizes are:

Sports organisers: Syed Yusuf Hossain, the president of the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation; General Secretary of Sylhet DSA Yahya Raja Chowdhury; and Tanvir Haider.

a Joint secretary of Mohamm edan Sporting Club.

Referee, umpire and judges: Md Latlfur Rahman Khan (boxing) and Md Asghar (cricket).

Bata Shoe Co (Bangladesh) Ltd will receive the award for sponsoring sports in the country.

The prize-giving ceremony will be held later this year, possibly 1n September
