SATKHIRA, Nov lp_ Y Excessive fare, deplorable condition of roads and violation of traffic rules have made bus journey hazardous in different routes of the district.

According to the sources, clashes following altercations between passengers and the conductors over excessive fares have become a regular feature. Besides, most of the roads have developed holes and ditches at many places making them unfit for vehicular movement. The roads from Satkhira to Khulna via Chuknagar, Satkhlra-Jessore via Navaran, Satkhira Assassuni. Salkhlra-Munishiganj and Satkhira-Bhomra are so narrow that hardly two vehicles can pass each other at a time.

But communication from Satkhira to Shyamnagar Is also hazardous due to inadequate ferry services. The lone ferry boat at KaliganJ ferry ghat is unable to cope with the heavy pressure of traffic movement. Local people have been demanding a bridge on the river since long to improve the communication system

Random violation of traffic rules in the town has been causing serious traffic jams and frequent accidents. Informed sources said that trucks, buses

and rickshaws are parked on the middle of the main roads blocking the vehicular movement.

It is alleged that negligence to responsibility of traffic police often causes Jam as they stop the buses and trucks In the middle of the roads to collect toll from the drivers. Moreover, drivers allow the passengers to travel on the roof and resort to rash driving ignoring the government restrictions. Goods are also carried on the roof of the buses.
