BERLIN Nov 10 : Between 70,000 and 1,00,000 demon strators marched throughout Germany Saturday to denounce a wave of racist attacks that was marred the country in recent months, reports AFP.

Police arrested at least 110 persons in the former East German city of Halle as hundreds of left-wing militants clashed with neo-nazls who had earlier held a counterdemonstration, a police spokesman there said

Hatchets, knives and other weapons were seized from the protesters, notably from the left wingers who came from Berlin, he said

In the nationwide anti racism demonstrations police reported an overall turnout of 70,000 while organizers gave

the figure as 1.00.000 still less than and had been predicted

The protests were held to coincide with the second anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, which divided Communist East Berlin from the west, and 53 years after the Infamous crystal night, in 1938 when Nazis attacked Jews.
