A weeklong solo exhibition of paintings and graphics by eminent Indian artist Shuva-prasanna was opened at a city art gallery Sunday evening, reports BSS.

Inaugurating the exhibition, his first in Bangladesh, the artist who has earned fame and controversy both at home and abroad. Planning Minister Zahlruddln Khan stressed the need for exchange of such exhibitions between India and Bangladesh to have greater understanding among the people.

Khan, who himself was an amateur artist, said one of the basic duties of a government was to ensure best utilisation of people's creative genius. He said the present government

was working in this direction, so that talents get due scope to utilise their creativity.

Twenty oil paintings and graphics have been displayed in the La Galerle' at Banani, Kemal Ataturk Avenue, which sponsored the exhibition in cooperation with Hotel Purbanl International. The painter Shuvaprasanna, who arrived in the city Saturday along with his wife. Slpra. also spoke briefly on the occasion.

The function was attended, among others, by Indian High Commissioner K Srinivasan, poet Shamsur Rahman, artist Amlnul Islam and the owner of 'La Galerle' Akku Chowdhury. The exhibition will remain open from 9 am to 8.30 pm rvrrv Hav Mil Nnvrmh^r 1 7
