A number of persona were Injured and a student leader was detained by police when •cufnes broke out between employees and a group of Dhaka University students at the Secretariat Saturday after noon.

Witnesses said, the scuffle broke out when five person* entered the Secretariat premises at around 2 pm in a private car and claiming to be DU student* tried to board an elevator forcibly without standing tn the queue at the 20-atoried building

When the employees pre sent at the scene protested scuffles ensued in which sev era! employees were injured, witnesses said.

After other employee* came to the spot the outsider ran up the stairs and tried to take shelter at the first floor office of the Energy Ministry, they added. During the chase down the first floor all the flower vases on- the corridor were broken to piece*.

Police managed to bring the situation under control on ar-rival.

According to Ramna thana. Saldul Huq Said, General Secretary of the Suryasen Hall union, was picked up by police from the spot.

A case was lodged by the Secretariat employees with the Ramna police station.

Law enforcement officials are taking extra precautions by placing additional police personnel around the Secretariat building to prevent any backlash, police sources said.
