LONDON. Oct 9 : Chelsea crashed angrily out of the English League Cup to Second Tranmere Rovers

and were one of three First Division sides to fall to lesser opponents on Tuesday, reports AFP.

Wimbledon and Luton Town were also beaten while Everton and Leeds had some tough nuts to crack in their second round second legs. And England manager Graham Taylor got more bad news when he found out that Arsenal's Ian Wright and Tony Adams may be added to his casualty list

The English League s leading scorer John Aldridge got the extra-time goal which finally killed Chelsea's hopes after they had six players booked, one sent off and still managed to pull a goal back.

Chelsea captain Andy Townsend fouled Aldrldg for the penalty. But Chelsea players complained furiously that his 15th goal of the year should not have been allowed because he dummied before kicking the penalty.

The referee rejected their pleas and seconds later Chris Malkin got another goal to make ft 3-1 to Tranmere on the night and 4-2 on aggregate.

Jim Steel put Tranmere ahead with a first half header. Chelsea had midfield player Damien Matthew sent off for his second bookable offence tn the second period but Dennis Wise scored the equaliser which forced the extra-time battle.

Peter Withe started his reign al Wimbledon by watching them fight back to draw 2-2 at Peterborough but go out 4-3 on aggregate lo the Third Division side.

Gary Kimble shot Peterborough ahead just after hitting the post with an earlier ■■hoi. David Riley scored the second.

Andy Clanke pulled one back for Wimbledon and late in the game John Fashanu leveled

the game on Ihe night from the penalty spot.

The fightback was nol enough, but Withe, who became manager on Monday, was not too despondent. "I asked them for commitment at half lime and that is what I got"

A last minute goal by Nigel G leghorn put Third Division Birmingham City through at the expense of First Division strugglers Luton Town. They won 3-2 on the night and 5-4 on aggregate.

Dean Peer headed Birmingham into the lead and Gleghorn put them further ahead in the 59th minute. Bui Luton's Phillip Gray scored twice in three minutes to level the score again and Gleghorn's header In the dying seconds was crucial.

Ian Wright scored his sixth goal in four games for Arsenal, who were held 1-1 in the first leg but went through 3-1 on aggregate against Leicester City.

Gunners' manager George Graham said Wright had an ankle ligament Injury which had

been getting worse since he Joined the club two weeks ago. Adams has a groin injury.

Graham said he would let the England boss know more

on Thursday, but he said Wright was "ddubtful."

Fourth Division Rochdale beat First Division Coventry City with an Andy Milner header one minute from time. But that only reduced their two- match to 4-1.

Leeds United, second in the First Division, were held 0-0 in the first leg of their tie with Fourth Division Scunthorpe and had to wait 70 minutes into the second game before Mel Sterland broke the deadlock with a penalty and Leeds won 3-0 in the end.

Everton saw their one goal lead from the first leg cancelled by Watford's teenage substitute Darren Bazclcy. But Mike Newell and Peter Beardsley scored wilh 60 seconds of each other in the last 10 minutes to sevuic a 3-1 win on aggregate.

Nottingham Forest went through 9-2 on aggregate and beat Bolton Wanderers 5-2 in the second leg with Eire international Roy Keane bagging a pair.
