LONDON. Sept 8: Paul Gascoigne, the England midfielder due to appear in court on Monday on assault charges, was named on Saturday night in a divorce case, reports AFP.

The Tottenham star, scheduled to join Italian club Lazio for 4.5 million pounds next May, is accused of having an affair with Sheryl Kyle, whose husband Colin is said to have field for divorce on the grounds of her adultery.

But the 24-ycar-old Geordie's business adviser. Mel Stein, stressed that his client would be fighting the claims.

"It's not denied that Paul know this particular lady." said Stein." He knows her socially. They're not having an affair. Any divorce proceedings arc being defended."

Stein stressed that the footballer met Mrs Kyle, 25, after she and her husband had already separated following five years of marriage.

A report tn the people newspaper claims that Kyle, a 26-year-old estate agent, has left the family home at hod-desdon in Hertfordshire and named Gascoigne In divorce papers filed at Cambridge country court.

He is due to return to football early in 1992 after rupturing knee ligaments during the English Fa Cup final last May.
