Chandpur Town Protection body

Chandpur Town Protection Committee on Sunday demanded an immediate longterm project to protect the town as well as- the district from river-erosion.

Jahangir Akhand Selim. Convenor of the committee in a press conference at the National Press Club said that 20,000 ft of the post town at the confluence of Padma. Meghna and Dakatia river have already been eroded.

Earlier separate projects were taken to save the town but due to corruption and mismanagement those failed, he said.

Photographic exhibition

A 13-day photographic exhibition of renowned photographer Anwar Hossain began In city Sunday.

Eminent Poet Shamsur Rahman had Inaugurated the exhibition titled Tove vs politics' at La Galerie at 54. Kemal Ataturk Avenue. Bananl.

A total of 100 colour and black and white photographs are being put on display at the Galerie depicting the photographer's critical look at the world political movements and juxtapose love vs politics in Asia, Africa. Europe and the USA

Employees Union

A general meeting of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Workers Employees Union was held at the premises of Ramna Telephone Bhaban demanding trial of corrupt officials and repeal of black laws.

The meeting was presided over by President Feroz Mian and was addressed by Secretary General Kazi Kamal Uddin.

Naria Upazila Samity

A 33-member Executive Committee of Naria Upazlla Samity al Dhaka was formed on Sunday at a meeting with SM Abdur Rahman as President and Mir Monlr Hossain as General Secretary.

A 15-member Advisory Committee was also formed at the meeting which was presided over by Harun-ur-Rashid and was attended by a large number of inhabitants of Naria living In Dhaka.

BPHRJF

In observance of 'International Literacy Day* the Bangladesh Peace and Human Rights Journalists Forum (BPHRJF) arranged a discussion meeting Sunday afternoon at the Forum Office.

Presided over by Bablu Rahman, President of the BPHRJF, the meeting was also . addressed among others by Mesbah Ahmed. Shamsul Hoque and Masudul Hasan.

The speakers expressed the opinion that without ensuring education for all. we cannot claim ourselves as civilized.

Janmastami observed

Janmastami of Bhagaban Shree Krishna held recently at Swami Bholananda Giri Ashram under the auspicious of Shree Shree Gita Sangha with due pomp and grandeur. The programme of the day included Mangalacharan, recitation from Shreema Gita and Bhagavad, Puja of God Shreekrishna and distribution of Proshad among the devotees and discussion.

Swami Shaktinathananda, Shreemoth Kanti Bhandu Brahmacharl, Prodip Moharaj, Prof Mukulika Saha, Prof Abanl Mohan Bormon and others took part In the discussion meeting. It was presided over by the President of the Sangha Shree Badal Kanti Bhattacherjee.
