KHULNA. Sept 8 : The overall law and order situation of Khulna and Satkhira districts was reviewed at a meeting held here today, reports USS.

Tayebuddin Ahmed, Inspector General of Police attended the meeting as the chief guest while Shahidul Huq, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner and DIG of Khulna range presided. It was also attended by concerned high officials of KMP and Khulna and Satkhira districts.

The Inspector General of Police reviewed the overall law and order situation of the two districts and the metropolitan city area following Operation Durbar and directed the concerned police officials to take effective measures for the maintenance of peaceful situation in these areas.

Tayebuddin Ahmed lauded the performance of the police personnel particularly during the drive in order to completely wipe out the anti-social elements from the society.

He also called upon the police officials to play their due role for the smooth holding of both the coming by-elections and the referendum to consolidate the process of democracy in the country. He also appreciated the performance of police during the last general elections and expressed his full confidence that the police administration this time would also be able to maintain peace and tranquility for the holding of the nationwide referendum Sept 15.

Tayebuddin called upon the police officials to discharge their duties with diligence and honesty in guarding against the antl-soclal elements who disturb peace and take actions against them without fear or favour for greater national Interest. He advised the police officials to earn the confidence of the people through their conduct

A gang of miscreants

snatched away a brief case with Tk 42,000 cash money injuring one businessman seriously at Khan Jahan AH road in the tpwn this morning, reports UNB.

The victim Abul Kalam of Fakirhat upazlla along with his associate Satya Ranjan Chakrabarty while going to Faktrhat bazar by rickshaw were attacked by the hijackers with deadly weapons.

The miscreants numbering five started stabbing Kalam indiscriminately till he lost his senses and decamped with the brief case. Abul Kalam was rushed to the Sadar hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

A case has been filed with KotwaV police in this connection.
